In the heart of the Langhe near Alba is to be found the Ca’ del Baio wine cellar. The Grasso family has been in the wine-growing business since 1880: a real tradition handed down over time from father to son.

Most of the vineyards are located in Valgrande, in the village of Treiso, while the remainder are in one of the finest wine-growing sites in Barbaresco. Although the production is mostly given over to red wines (Barbaresco, Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba), there are also two white wines.

100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on one of the finest estate vineyards in the village of Barbaresco.

The position, soil and tending of the vines produce a truly big, aristocratic wine of great personality.
Garnet-red with highlights of varying intensity, this is a wine that ages well.

Picked towards mid-October, it is matured in small oak barrels for around 15 months.

Robert Parker Review:

Ca' Del Baio Barbaresco 2000 91 points

Another demonstration of the high quality of the Asili vineyard, the 2000 Barbaresco Asili of this producer is endowed with an ample nose of plums, chocolate, tar,and vanilla, and its powerful, elegant flavors admirably combine significant extract, supple tannins, and a velvety texture. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016. Various American importers including Bolliger Wines, Stamford,CT; tel(203)324-5999

A white wine made from selected Chardonnay grapes grown on our farm. Pale straw-yellow with a clean nose that blends perfectly with the unsurpassable fragrance of its aroma.

Picked around 20th September, the grapes are fermented using a special technique at a low temperature before the wine is left to mature in wood for around 9 months.
